Bedroom Blockers

Posted by: andrewlund

This winter there’s been a lot in the media about “Bed blockers” clogging up NHS Hospitals. Whilst “Fit to leave” the lack of a care plan or a delay in getting suitable adaptations leaves them stuck. The fact is that for many of the elderly their home is no longer suitable for their needs. However, faced with a lack of suitable alternative housing they are stuck in accommodation that is often too large, too expensive to maintain and really more suited to a growing family. There is a consensus that we have a housing crisis in the UK. However, with the focus on First Time Buyers we are approaching the problem from the wrong end. What we need is new housing stock which will give the elderly a better option for later life thus freeing up much needed homes for families.
