Talking to a contact the other day who supplies and erects “For Sale” boards to Estate Agents throughout the Midlands. This puts him in a fairly unique position as he gets a feel for the number of boards that are going up in the region and, more importantly, the number of “Sold” strips that are being put on those boards. He said that the market was “very difficult”. He’s right. Before the Northern Rock crisis hit the market was already beginning to cool. The jitters that have followed are having the effect of undermining buyers’ confidence. As ever, there are still committed buyers out there but if you are serious about selling you need to be realistic on price.
